Mapping with, Body, archive, territory in some of Albertina Carri's productions

Abstract

The work of visual artist and writer Albertina Carri is presented as a challenge and a platform for experimentation to explore some inflections in the ways of narrating certain life experiences crossed by historical/political events. Operations that, in several of her materials, incorporate a zone of reflection on how to compose a body as an operation that involves a particular look on the archive and also on the territory. We understand that these elements are key in order to stress questions concerning memories, processes of subjectivation and forms of the archive as a surface of inscription and registration. From this perspective, we are interested in posing some questions in relation to the artist's proposal in a partial tour that will take certain lines from her first novel, Lo que aprendí de las bestias (2021) in dialogue with some of her films. We think that Carri elaborates an aesthetic/affective/material device in which material and immaterial territories, processes of subjectivation and uses of the archive coexist, allowing her to sustain/invent a dissident gaze that is alien to the dominant mandates and roles. A device in movement, which mutates according to the different aesthetic projects, but in which the creation of an existential territory (in the sense given to the term by Felix Guattari) is perceived in order to generate other modes of relationship between heterogeneous elements (animal, vegetable, terrestrial, human, more than human).
