The CELTYV and the construction of the “victims of terrorism” (2006-2018)

Abstract

This article attempts to address the memory military-elaborated and its closest circles, about what happened in the last military dictatorship. Specifically, the work will examine the “Centro de Estudios Legales sobre el Terrorismo y sus Ví­ctimas” (CELTYV), an civil origin organization, but which is linked to the military sector. The declares aim of this organization is to seek reparation and respect for the human rights of those who died in actions carried out by political-military organizations (especially Montoneros and ERP), before and during the military government. In this regard, they build their victimization following parameters established by the memory of human rights organizations (since 1980s to the present), using them to criticize that memory, which they classify as sectarian. For this reason, the organization is within the "full memory" field. Throughout the work, the representations and characteristics assumed by the so-called “victims of terrorism” are analyzed; its observes to what extent their memory approaches or distances themselves from the military sectors memories in general and others over the period; its realizes the remembrance practices and resources they use to spread their memory; and the legal framework that this organization bases its memory and its political position in the present is exposed.
